Centrifuges

A centrifuge works by using the principle of sedimentation: Under the influence of gravitational force (g-force), substances separate according to their density. Different types of separation are known, including isopycnic, ultrafiltration, density gradient, phase separation, and pelleting. RPM (revolutions per minute) is the way in which we describe how fast a centrifuge is going. This is the rate at which the rotor is revolving regardless of its size. G-Force or RCF (relative centrifugal force) is the force being exerted on the rotor contents.

One of the most common uses is to separate red blood cells and other blood components from whole blood, however, centrifuges are used in various laboratory applications to separate fluids, gases, or liquids based on density. In research and clinical laboratories, centrifuges are often used for cell, organelle, virus, protein, and nucleic acid purification.

Centrifuge machine applications

Centrifuges are used in a variety of industries, including in research laboratories, medical labs and hospitals, food-processing plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and many other types of facilities. The most common centrifuge applications include:

  • Separation of mixtures with close densities
  • Separate immiscible liquids
  • Blood separations
  • Urine sediments
  • Sediment suspended solids
  • Isotope Separation
  • Gravity simulation environments for astronauts
  • Material synthesis in a high gravity environment
  • Microhematocrits
  • And other routine applications

A centrifuge range with no compromises on quality

Thermoline's range of centrifuges is trusted for their consistency in delivering outstanding performance and reliability in the lab. All centrifuges feature a light, yet extremely strong chassis to ensure long-term centrifuge strength. Only the highest quality motors and electronic parts are used to allow these laboratory centrifuges to accelerate to high speeds while remaining quiet and vibration free. All centrifuge machines feature the latest speed and temperature control technology with easy-to-use LED controls.

Our laboratory centrifuges range from compact space-saving mini centrifuges to universally applicable benchtop models. Able to handle multiple applications, they're suitable for use in hospital and clinical labs, as well as research and industrial laboratories. Ranging from 500 rpm up to 16000 rpm, our centrifuges accommodate a variety of rotors. They also offer features such as automatic rotor recognition, out-of-balance detection sensors and secure dual-pin lid locking.  They're just the thing for the busiest of laboratories.
