To ensure the safe storage of delicate substances like antibodies and cell cultures, Thermoline laboratory appliances come with precise controls and built-in alarm systems. BMS voltage-free contacts facilitate remote monitoring of power loss and low and high-temperature alarms, and a simple port hole in the side wall allows for easy reference monitoring with a cable or sensor.

The freezers come equipped with an automatic defrost system that intermittently applies heat to the cooling evaporator, causing the frost to melt away. The auto-defrost feature means no more messy defrosting during critical times, and optional chart recorders can be fitted for accurate performance monitoring.

For added peace of mind, these high-quality Australian Made laboratory freezers feature sturdy self-closing doors with key locks, adjustable/removable shelves, and castors for easy movement. What is the difference between a lab freezer and domestic freezer?

Laboratory freezers are designed to meet much stricter standards than commercial freezers. Biological samples must be stored within tight temperature ranges to sample loss and spoilage

The main difference between a laboratory freezer and a domestic freezer is the level of precision and consistency required for the storage of biological samples, reagents and medical specimens. Lab freezers have features such as alarms, high and low logging, and can have backup power supplies to ensure the safety and integrity of the stored specimens. Lab freezers are designed to meet the specific requirements of the laboratories, whereas domestic fridges are designed for general household use.

What different types of laboratory freezer are available?

There are several types of laboratory freezers available, including:

  1. Upright freezers: These freezers have a vertical orientation and are available in a range of sizes, from under benchtop models to large capacity units that can store hundreds of samples. Upright freezers typically have several shelves, drawers or compartments for easy organisation of samples.

  2. Chest freezers: Chest freezers have a horizontal orientation and are often used for storing large or bulky items. They are more energy efficient than upright freezers and can provide longer holdover times during power outages.

  3. Biomedical Chest Freezers: These -60°C chest freezers are suitable for storing a wide variety of biological products including viruses, bacteria, blood cells, skin and bone as well as ocean-going supplies and electronic devices. 

  4. Ultra-low temperature freezers: These freezers provide even lower temperatures, down to -80°C. They are often used for long-term storage of biological specimens, vaccines, and other critical materials.

Can you have remote monitoring of alarms in a lab freezer?
Thermoline's entire range of laboratory fridges can be connected to a building management system to allow for remote monitoring of power loss and low and high alarms. The BMS is a volt-free NO/NC contact closure that simply changes state if in an alarm condition. 
What is auto-defrost in a lab freezer?
The freezers come equipped with an automatic defrost system that intermittently applies heat to the cooling evaporator, causing the frost to melt away. This avoids the need for unpacking a freezer, then turning it off to clear away any ice build up.
