Uncirculated Water Baths TWB
The water bath is an essential piece of equipment in any laboratory.
Our innovative baths combine ease of use and high performance – to increase productivity across all your lab applications.
Made of stainless steel and insulated to reduce heat loss, our uncirculated water baths offor unparalleled temperature control.
As a leading manufacturer and supplier of laboratory equipment in Australia, Thermoline Scientific offers a range of quality laboratory water baths to suit a variety of applications.
The range of laboratory water baths is trusted for their consistency in delivering outstanding performance and reliability. Our innovative baths combine ease of use and high performance to help customers achieve increased productivity across many applications.
The uncirculated laboratory water baths are available in two key sizes, 12 and 24 litres. As the name suggests, the water in the bath is not circulated by any mechanical means and instead relies on the gentle, natural convection of heat through the water. The bath provides a stable and controlled temperature environment for samples, test tubes, or other items.
A protective, perforated false floor sits above the heating element to protect your samples from directly contacting the heater. Convenient carry handles assist with moving the bath if need. All baths feature a simple to use drain when the time comes to remove the water and clean the tank.
Water baths have a wide range of applications in various fields, including biomedicine, life sciences, and industry. They are also commonly used in commercial kitchen cooking methods like Sous Vide. Some specific applications of water baths include sample thawing, bacteriological examinations, reagent warming, coliform determinations, and microbiological assays.
If you have specific requirements for your laboratory water bath, such as a specific size or function, we can customise a water bath to suit your exact needs.
Note: Clear polycarbonate lids and flat stainless steel lids sold separately.

- How do I control temperatures at or below ambient?
- To achieve temperatures at or below ambient will require refrigeration of the bath. Thermoline has a wide range of refrigerated water baths to suit your needs. The TU3 is a heat-only device that controls temperatures +5°C above ambient temperature.
- What are laboratory water baths used for?
Laboratory water baths are a type of laboratory equipment that are used for a variety of applications, including:
Warming and thawing samples: Water baths can be used to quickly and uniformly warm or thaw samples, such as reagents or frozen biological specimens, to a specific temperature.
Incubating and culturing samples: Water baths can be used to incubate samples at a controlled temperature for a specified period. This is commonly used in microbiology and molecular biology applications, such as growing bacterial cultures, conducting enzyme assays, and hybridisation.
Heating and maintaining consistent temperature for reactions: Water baths can be used for heating and maintaining a constant temperature for chemical and biochemical reactions, such as PCR amplification, DNA melting, and protein denaturation.
Melting point determination: Water baths can be used for determining the melting point of solid samples, such as organic compounds.
- What are different types of water bath?
Some of the water baths that Thermoline Scientific supplies include:
General-purpose uncircuated water baths: These are basic water baths that are suitable for a variety of laboratory applications, including warming samples and incubating cultures.
Circulating water baths: These water baths have a built-in pump or external TU3 heater circulator that circulates the water to maintain a constant temperature throughout the bath. They are commonly used in applications that require precise temperature control, such as PCR amplification and protein denaturation.
Shaking water baths: These water baths have a shaking platform that allows for agitation of samples during incubation. They are commonly used in applications that require mixing, such as bacterial culture growth and hybridisation.
- Should I use an uncirculated laboratory water bath or a circulated laboratory water bath?
The choice between using an uncirculated laboratory water bath or a circulated laboratory water bath depends on the specific requirements of your experiment or application.
An uncirculated water bath can be suitable for certain applications, such as when you need to maintain a consistent temperature in a sample or material that is not sensitive to temperature variations or if your sample is prone to be 'knocked over' by water currents due to its weight and shape. However, a circulated water bath is preferred for most laboratory applications because it provides more consistent and uniform heating.
A circulated water bath typically has a built-in pump that circulates water throughout the bath, ensuring a more even temperature distribution.
